This session is aimed at introducing the antimicrobials as important medicine and concept of resistance of microbes to antimicrobials, how the microbes become resistant and how our actions contributed to the resistance. In this session Dr. Oluwatosin introduces antimicrobial resistance as a major area of concern, he takes us through the history behind the discovery of antibiotics, how antibiotics work, the mechanisms of development of antibiotic resistance and how resistant bacteria spread. On a lighter note he emphasizes key ways we all can reduce the spread of resistant bacteria.
