Maarten van der Heijden is a lawyer and policy researcher who specializes in antimicrobial resistance and medicine policy. Maarten joined the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019, where he works as Technical Officer within the Global Coordination and Partnership of the Antimicrobial Resistance Division in Geneva, Switzerland.

Before joining WHO, Maarten worked with ReAct – Action on Antimicrobial Resistance as Policy Manager in Ecuador and in Sweden. Maarten has received his Master of Laws degrees from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands and the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Switzerland. He is currently a PhD candidate in Global Health and Development at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
