Why we chose AMR Knights

Knights are soldiers who have sworn an allegiance to a royal or a realm. They are protectors whose loyalty lie with whomever they’ve promised to serve. With how drastic the problem of antimicrobial resistance is, we believe that it is necessary for us to committedly and devotedly pursue and fight all forms of antimicrobial abuse and misuse in order to ensure preservation of our health systems now and for the future.

Our Motto: Antimicrobial Knights, saving the future of healthcare.

OUR STORY

We are all mutual friends of the team leader (Oluchi). She had posted the application details on her WhatsApp status which we saw and indicated an interest in. She added us to a group and sent details of the training to us, advising us to go over it confirm our participation. A member was dropped initially in the search for a non-medic. After a while, the team leader finally contacted a friend she had met in a book club (Iradat). She was interested in the training from the get go and the rest they say is history. Our expectations from the AMR ambassadors program is to be properly empowered with the needed theoretical and practical knowledge to contribute to the multi-sectoral fight against Antimicrobial

resistance while actively participating in the program. We look forward to meeting other young minds as we actively collaborate together to achieve an antimicrobial free society. We also hope to benefit from the experiences and privileges attached to this program and consequently raise others with the same vision of ending Antimicrobial resistance. As a creative idea we proposed an Antimicrobial Stewardship clubs in schools and our higher institution aimed at promoting awareness about Antimicrobial Resistance and Stewardship. Using Story telling, we would promote knowledge about AMR resistance in fun and engaging ways for both the young and old.

Different microorganisms causes different diseases. Sometimes our body can fight them, sometimes it cannot, that is why doctors have brought about drugs which can kill these microorganisms. However, after much use and misuse of these drugs, the disease will not die when these drugs is being taken against, like they will develop strength towards it leading to Antimicrobial resistance
